

Born on August 6, 1939, in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late John Zipoli and Doris (Daddio) and Louis Gene Sileo. Shirley led a remarkable life filled with both professional achievements and artistic passion. She was proud to be the first woman licensed insurance agent in the State of Connecticut and served as Chair of Connecticut’s Life Insurance Writer’s Board, paving the way for future generations of women in the industry. She later retired from American Senior Benefits, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and compassion in her work.
In addition to her insurance work, Shirley was a professional pastry chef who maintained her own baking business and brought joy to celebrations with her chocolate work and various culinary creations.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shirley was a gifted watercolor artist, known for her creativity and love of beauty. Her paintings were a reflection of her kind spirit and appreciation for the world around her.
Shirley is survived by her two beloved daughters, Shawn Moore and Sandra Polacheck and her husband Mark of Plantsville. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Daniel Lango of Bristol, Joseph Byron V and his wife Stephanie of Vernon, Sarah Ann Boemmels and husband Jay of Vancouver, WA, Samantha Byron of Terryville, and Arianna Polacheck of Plantsville, as well as her great-grandson, Jack Lango, who brought her immense joy.
She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her—for her trailblazing spirit, her artistic soul, and the deep love she had for her family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 7th at 9 AM at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 669 Platt Rd., Watertown. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
