

He was born September 13, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Zoltan and Margaret (Piszel) Makocy.
Steven served with the U.S Navy. Upon his discharge he went into business with his brother Zoltan in Leonia NJ. In the early 70’s he opened an Exxon station in Ridgewood NJ. He retired after many years of serving the community and building a reputation for honesty and an uncanny ability to know what was wrong with an engine. He couldn’t stay away from cars so he took a job as service manager at Vale Pontiac in Montvale, NJ. He was past Commodore at the Tappan Zee Marina Yacht Club in Piermont, NY, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Ridgewood, NJ and a member of the Gasoline Retailers Association. of NJ.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his four daughters, Cristiana Wall and husband Bryan of Louisburg, NC, Marlis Lovelace of Plantsville, CT, Karen Philbrick and husband Scott of NH and Margaret Inderbitzen and husband Dan of PA; five grandchildren, Riley, Aidan, Sean, Scott and Samuel; two great-grandsons, Shiloh and Bohanin; a sister-in-law Joan Makocy of SC, a niece, Jamie and nephew Kevin and his favorite cousin Joan Pasetty of Melbourne Beach FL along with her family, husband John and son, Douglas and daughter Jill.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven “Stevie” Makocy Jr, a brother, Zoltan Makocy and a nephew Zoltan Makocy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 12:30 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, CT. Memorial calling hours will be prior to the service from 11-12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a gift be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Steve.
