Thomas H. Derwin

Thomas H. Derwin, 67, of Southington, beloved husband of 49 years to Janet (Gonzalez) Derwin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023 after a lengthy illness. Thomas was born in Waterbury on March 10, 1956 and was the son of the late Thomas E. and Alice (Smolley) Derwin. After graduating from Wolcott High School, Thomas began his working career at Royal Screw Machine Products located on Mill St. in Waterbury. Through years of dedication and hard work, Thomas purchased the business in 2007 and became its President and CEO. He was an avid car buff, restoring his beloved 1973 Buick Riviera Boattail. He also owned the #21 SK Modified Lite car driven by Sami Anderson and also owned a Limited Late Model race car. Thomas loved listening to heavy rock music and also loved playing guitar. His “home away from home” was in Myrtle Beach where he would have parties with his family and friends. He also was an amateur pyrotechnic who would put on some dazzling firework shows that would light up the sky! He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. Besides his wife Janet, Thomas is survived by his son Rory Derwin and his wife Tracie of Southington, his two grandchildren Hailey Marie Derwin and Riley Thomas Derwin. He is also survived by his brother Paul Derwin and his wife Carmen of Leesburg, Fl. And also by his brother in law Joe Gonzalez and his wife Lisa of Lafayette, LA. Thomas was predeceased by his son Jason Derwin and also by his brother Peter Derwin. A funeral home service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.
