Bartele VanderZwaag

Bart VanderZwaag was born in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands, the fifth of eight children to Hemke and Frederika VanderZwaag. A proud Dutchman, he carried with him a legacy of hard work, faith, and family.

Bart was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and playful spirit. He had a unique blend of being both stubborn and silly—always ready with a joke or a twinkle in his eye. A lifelong tinkerer and handyman, he could fix almost anything. Whether it was in his workshop, his beloved garden, or while watching a game, Bart found joy in the simple things.

He worked as a truck driver, but his greatest journey was the one he shared with his beloved wife Dory, with whom he was just reunited with a week before he left us celebrating over 69 years of marriage. Together, they built a life in St. Catharines.

Bart was the proud father of 6 children, grandfather to 21, and great-grandfather to 25—with another great-grandchild on the way.

His life was a testament to resilience, family, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a rich heritage and countless cherished memories. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
