Fred Gerbes

Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side, in his 94th year. Beloved Husband for nearly 70 years of Ursula. Loving Dad of Werner (Barbara) and Susan Gerbes. Proud Opa of Melanie (Walter) Sendzik and Nicole Gerbes (Dan Plomish). Great-Opa of Ella, Will and Max. Fred immigrated to Canada in 1951 and began working the day after his arrival with Direct Winters Transport as a diesel mechanic before moving to Newman Steel as a Plant Manager where he remained for over 40 years until his retirement. He loved going to Florida for the winter where he fished and spent time with his friends.

In accordance with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines (905-684-6346). To celebrate Fred’s life, memorial donations may be made to the Central Community Church Kids Camp or a charity of choice, and would be appreciated by the family. A very special thank you to the staff at the Mandarin Restaurant who treated him so royally every week for years and a heartfelt thank you to Fred’s home care providers; Andrea, Carma, Dr. Arvinte, Darlene, Sharlene, and Christine. Because of their help, dad’s wish to die at home was realized.
