

WALER, Iwanna (neé Leibycz) – Surrounded by her family on September 8, 2011, Iwanna Waler peacefully fell asleep into the arms of the Lord. Predeceased by her much beloved husband of 55 years, Nicholas (1998). Survived by her devoted son Dr. Oleh; and grandchildren Markian, Krystina and Laryssa with husband Taras Hetmanczuk. Also survived by her sister Dora Sasyk and family in Chicago, and other family members across the United States, Canada and Ukraine. Mrs. Waler was born March 10, 1924 in Boryslav, Ukraine and came to Canada in 1949, settling in Sudbury, continuing on to Toronto and finally retiring to St. Catharines in 1985. She is also predeceased by her parents Ivan and Kateryna and brothers Bohdan and Roman. Mrs. Waler and her husband were active members of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in St. Catharines, as well as St.Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto. Many thanks to Drs. Taylor, Luce, Masnyk, Ditor, Raimondo, Jany, Kobylecky, Blackman and Minkarious; the exceptional nurses on C6 East at the St. Catharines General and 2 West at Hotel Dieu Shaver; and the chaplains at the Hotel Dieu Shaver for their compassionate care. Also, thank you to our dear friends and “kumy” who continued to visit and call on our Baba and Mother during her recent hospitalizations. A special thank you to Dr. Christine Turkewych with daughter Zenia, and Jessy Murrison with fiancé Frank Zita.
Friends will be received at HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME (75 Church St., St. Catharines. (905) 684-6346), on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm, with Panachyda at 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 8 Augusta Ave., St. Catharines, on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. Internment and Tryzna to follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville.
