Peacefully, at Lookout Ridge in Fonthill, Ontario, on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Dear wife of Alfred, survived by sons Paul (Kathryn) Ashdown, David (Lori) Ashdown and Graham (Mary) Ashdown, grandmother to Melissa (Ken) Fetherstonhaugh, Carrie (Andrew) Warrack, Nicholas, Michael, Ryan and Clayton Ashdown, great-grandmother to Benjamin, Jillian, Dryden, Teaghan, Jessica, Christopher, Meaghan & her brother Jamie, predeceased by her sister Ruth Macdonald. Jean was born in St. Catharines and graduated from the St. Catharines Collegiate where she met Alfred. After the war, they married and raised their three sons. Jean later worked alongside her husband in the family sign business. Jean was an active and faithful member of Memorial United Church. She was a volunteer at Linhaven for many years along with many other groups and associations. Jean loved to play piano every chance she could, accompanying soloists, groups and the family band. Jean’s large circle of friends will sadly miss her. She regularly met with her high school sorority until late in her life. Jean will always be remembered for her keen sense of humour, sharp wit, story-telling, loyalty, dedication and loving ways. Her accomplishments were not measured by degrees or accolades, but how she touched the lives of those around her. The family would like to thank the management & staff at Lookout Ridge.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held in the Chapel at Lookout Ridge, 1505 Lookout Street in Fonthill, Ontario on Saturday September 7th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
