

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 10th, 2024, he was 84 years old.
Alex was born in Calcutta, India on October 12th 1939. Survived by his loving wife Janet (Donovan) Nazar of almost 59 years.
Lovingly remembered by his daughters, Nina Choma (Peter), Tanya Nazar Branch (Griff); his grandchildren Courtney Prankard (AJ), Caitlyn Graves, Olivia Choma, Mitchell Choma, Cody Pierson (pre-deceased), David Pierson (Kaitlynn), Tarah Branch (Lazaro), Cameron Branch and his great grand children Samuel and Leah Branch. Affectionately remembered by his eldest daughter Corinne Reilly (Phil).
Pre-deceased by his parents Nina Gayraud & Gregory Nazar, sisters Felicia Nazar, Marion McGinley, brothers George Nazar, Sarkies Nazar, survived by his sister June Staward in England.
Marcel (Alex) immigrated from India to England and then to Montreal, QC where he met his future wife Janet in 1963. He quickly swept Janet off her feet with his charm and charisma and they married in August 1965 where they started their family the following year. They lived in Montreal until 1979 when Marcel (Alex) took a transfer to Ontario and the family all moved to St. Catharines.
Captain Nazar was a successful marine captain (Algoma Central) and pilot (The Corporation of Professional Great Lakes Pilots) for many years until he retired in 2006.
Marcel (Alex) and Janet enjoyed travelling the world together and had been to every continent with the exception of Australia. He always had an outrageous story to share when they returned home. He was an outstanding cook and loved to prepare unique dishes from around the world for everyone. He also loved movies, jazz music and most importantly being with mom, daughters and grandchildren.

Marcel’s (Alex) wishes are immediate cremation with a celebration of life to take place on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Coppola's Ristorante, at 203 Carlton Street in St.Catharines.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army would be appreciated as he always told us when he came to Canada with only $4.00 in his pocket, The Salvation Army was always there to help him.
