"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". John 3:16
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, Paul was called unto glory by his Lord and Saviour. A loving and caring husband, Paul was married to Tina (nee Mechelse) for 63 years. Paul is survived by his loving children, daughter Connie (Al, predeceased) DeRoche, and son Bill (Audrey) Van Vliet, as well as his cherished grandchildren Mark (Melanie) Van Vliet, Sarah (John) Suk, Mary (Matthew) Tigchelaar, Jeremy (Karina) DeRoche and Katrina (Brandon) Vermeer. Paul also leaves behind nine great grandchildren, whom he adored so much, Timothy, Emily, Joshua, Nicholas, Averie, Addison, Lincoln, Oakland and Mackenzie. He is dearly missed by his siblings Art (Mag) Van Vliet, Jean (Richard, predeceased) Heida, William Van Vliet (predeceased) and Alice (Bernard predeceased) Westerveld.
Paul, born in 1937 in the Netherlands, emigrated to Canada in 1950, where he supported his family by working on farms. He married Tina Mechelse in 1961 and they settled in Niagara Falls, raising two children, Connie and Bill.
Paul had a strong work ethic, going above and beyond as a school caretaker, often winning recognition for having the best maintained school. He cared deeply for the school children and developed lifelong friendships with staff members. After retiring, he served as Trinity Church’s custodian for several years and continued to volunteer to his last days.
A man of deep faith, Paul devoted his life to serving others and cherishing his family. He will be remembered for his humility, love, and unwavering commitment to his Lord.
