It is with great sadness that the family of Sophie Mary Horpenuk announces her sudden passing at the Welland Hospital on Friday, April 19, 2019, in her 95th year. Predeceased by her husband, George (1995). Loving mother of Nancy and Phyllis (Heinz Lehder) of Olds, Alberta. She leaves to cherish her memory two grand-daughters; Joy (Ray) Cavin of Olds, Alberta and Tricia (Chris) Hernes of Penticton, B.C., as well as five great-grandchildren; Leam and Matthew Cavin, and Brooklyn, Chloe and Brody Hernes.
Sophie was a school secretary at Gasline & Humberstone for over twenty years and enjoyed volunteering at the Port Colborne Senior Centre. Sharing her delicious soups and canning preserves brought her much pleasure.
A special thank you to her adopted son Marcel Desmarais and neighbours; Carol and Mike Watson and Colleen Riegle who were always on call to lend a helping hand.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Port Colborne Senior Centre or a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
