Una was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd (March 8, 1994). Mom passed on her 68th wedding anniversary, a day she said was the hardest for her when it came to missing Dad. They were married at 4:00 p.m. and mom left our world at 4:20 p.m., our father came to walk her down the aisle to the great hereafter.
Una leaves behind her sons, Lloyd (Brenda), Greg (Elaine) and her daughter, Christine (Steve). Grandma Lihou will be dearly missed by Brian (Amanda) and their daughter, Hayley; Kevin (Evelyn), Sarah (John) and their children Cameron and Jessie (Una’s namesake); Amber (Brad), Shawn and his son, Dominic, and Adam (Shannon). Also predeceased by her grandsons, Cameron and Nathan. Una will also be missed by her many friends and family.
She will always be remembered by her quick wit and friendly touch which she graced on her many friends and family. There wasn’t a soul on earth that Una wouldn’t help if she thought she could. Mom spent her days volunteering with the UCW at Grantham United Church and Westminster United Church. She was the President of the Auxiliary at Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake while her mother (Connie Hibben) was a resident there. In her younger years, she performed on stage with her father, Art Slingerland (“Buck”), and later sang with Jack Ferrigan’s Orchestra in a swing band trio. She loved to bowl at Fairview Lanes and earned a “Perfect Score” trophy that was displayed proudly in our family home. Mom’s Sunday roast beef dinners were second to none. She will always be remembered for her loving and kind nature.
Her favourite quote was by St. Francis of Assisi:
Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
Where there is sadness, joy
O Divine master grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled as to console
To be understood, as to understand
To be loved, as to love
For it’s in giving that we receive
And it’s in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it’s in dying that were are born…
To eternal life.
Amen.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service and interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
