She was born on December 11, 1934, in Perryville, Missouri, where she was raised and formed the strong values and spirit that defined her life.
Ellie’s faith in the Catholic Church was a guiding force throughout her years, and she generously supported many local charities in her community.
Ellie had a deep and unwavering love for animals, especially her beloved cat, Diana. She also cherished her daily visits to see "Ducky" at the pond-something she faithfully did until she was no longer able.
Known for her feisty personality, Ellie often declared herself “The Boss”, living life on her own terms-it was her way or the highway.
She was always impeccably dressed, rarely seen without her jewelry, furs, and hats, and her presence was unmistakable. In St. Louis, people knew when Ellie was arriving, and she delighted in seeing and connecting with everyone she met. She also had a well-known fondness for the company of men, a trait many will remember with a smile.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Nelson Haynes and her husband, Mike, of Huntington Beach, California; her granddaughter, Katie Haynes Taylor and her husband, Jason, of Billings, Montana; her daughter, Terre Duensing: and her daughter-in-law, Faye Marcantel of San Diego, California. Marty and Rick Johnston of Valles Mines, Missouri were cherished friends whom she regarded as family, like a son and daughter-in-law.
Ellie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Craig Wibbenmeyer, who passed away on December 24, 2014, and her husband, Jim Watts, who always kept her on her toes.
In keeping with her generous spirit, Ellie donated her body to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ellie was truly one of a kind. She left her mark on everyone she met and will be remembered for her strength, style, humor, and unmistakable presence. She is now reunited with her loved ones, and her memory will be cherished always.
A Mass celebrating Ellie's life will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis on Lindell Boulevard on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
