Such wonderful childhood memories of spending time at the Farmers with my dearest and best friend Wendy.  Fred was such a handsome and wonderful man to all he met. His kind eyes and gentle ways will be missed.  Much love and many prayers to the family.  He is only a heartbeat away.

I have loved Fred and his dear wife and family since I was a teenager.  Now in my 80's, I am fighting a bout of Sciatica and leg problems and could not get to the viewing nor the funeral, which broke my heart.  
I have so many wonderful memories of the early Church days in St. Louis, and my first church calling was teaching Susan in a primary class of 3 yr. olds.  Having no church family, the Farmers always loved and cared for me, and then with his children, I have spent so many years in church callings.  Twenty-two years ago Fred buried my husband and guided us through the parting.  He never ceased to check on me as a widow and always could give me a smile or laugh--along with a calendar :)   I wanted so to be there for him but I knew he would understand for that is a gift he always had, so kind, friendly, and fun too. His leadership was outstanding, and few could match what he has accomplished in our area.  I know my Lloyd will greet him warmly, and his Heavenly home will be happy.  Of course, he will never really leave us; he has touched our lives in ways never to be forgotten; his teachings guiding us--even when we get old and feeble knees.  I know everyone thinking of him is sad to meet the loss, yet we are all smiling at the blessing we had in associating with him and his dear ones.  You all know how I loved him, Gene, Susan, Wendy, Tom.  You know how I love you--and your extended families.
Haven't we a bank of memories of shared times!!!  FAITH  will overcome

One cannot talk about my darling Fred Farmer without talking also about my marvelous Gene Farmer.  They were and always will be the most remarkable couple.  I met them both 19 years ago and fell in love with them instantly.  I always told Fred that he was "my boyfriend"-- and he got a big kick out of that.

Fred left an indelible initial impression on me-- immediately-- when I first met him -- and he gruffly said, "Here is my card.  You might need this someday!"  I looked at the card and read that he was an embalmer!!!  What an introduction!!!  I didn't know quite what to say to him!!

Fred is not "gone"  now.  Rather, our wonderful Fred now "belongs to the ages" and will live forever in all of our hearts and minds. And my sweet Gene-- I will see you this week and give you and Theresa a big hug ad some of Straub's great chicken noodle soup....  Please know that I love you, Gene, and Fred with all of my heart. Fred was like a father to me. He has been loved and respected by many.  He always joked with the family reminding us that he wanted to be the one to prepare the body. I said all joking aside, aren't you afraid of dying? He said not at all with a twinkle in his eye. I hope to carry a fraction of the faith he has. Although I live in Michigan and have for the past 20 years I still read the St. Louis obituary's to find out about family and friends. Fred was my fathers (Bob Thurmon) cousin and Fred buried my father. I only met Fred a couple of times and Fred was a true gentlemen. My condolences to the Farmer family.

Just found out and I extend my condolences  to Gene and family.  Fred was a great man and I consider it a privilege to have known him and learned from him.  While he worked for my father I had the opportunity to see him almost every day... and every day was a pleasure with him.  Lunchtime was always the Price is Right! 

Thanks for all the memories Fred.  You were the best!

I have to say it was a trip down memory lane looking at all these great photos.   Some before I met Susan and her fun & loving family and some from about 1963 when we met to the present.  I will always remember how welcome I always felt in their home & how may laughs we shared.  I will say though, in looking at the one photo of Mr. Farmer & Grandma Tessie Lake in their living room with the dogs!  I had almost forgotten that the dog was the only one in that home that wasn't always happy with visitors. ha.  But THAT particular photo of Grandma in the chair & Mr. Farmer sitting on the floor captured the " picture" I always have in my mind when I think of them. I know you all will surely miss him; but what a full and meaningful life he had.  My sincere sympathy to you all.  Especially Mrs. Farmer, Susan, tom & Wendy. Thanks for the memories!

Fred was my bishop and I was in his priest quorum. He was a great example to me and to my family. When I was 14, we moved into the ward and he helped my family move in - with tons of food storage and a piano! Fred was a wonderful bishop, patriarch and friend. I will miss him greatly.
