Karen was the beloved wife of Thomas L. Nobel; loving mother of Lisa (Matthew) Shoemaker and Michael Nobel; devoted "KK" of Catherine and Elizabeth Shoemaker; dear sister of Mary (Michael) Bogowith; dear sister-in-law of Christine (Stan) Kates, Susan (Ralph) Oswald, Robert (Beverly) Nobel, Margaret (William) O'Donnell, Linda (Marshall) Clark, Gerard (the late Sherry) Nobel, Mary Ellen (Daniel) Durchholz, Martin (Melissa) Nobel, and Lawrence (Amanda) Nobel; a dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and a good friend to many in her lifetime.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Mario "Tony" and Wilma (nee Knowles) Simeone, her sisters Laura (the late Douglas) Ralphs, Susan Simeone, and Martha (Joseph) Conradi.
Married to her beloved husband Tom for 49 years, Karen was a doting mother to her two magnificent children, Lisa and Michael. She always pushed them to be their best and gave them every opportunity to succeed. She was an enthusiastic grandmother to her darling granddaughters, Cate and Libby, helping to raise them as if they were her own, and never missing out on any milestones or events if she could be there. Karen was one of five sisters in an affectionate home with their caring mother and father. She remained close with her sisters throughout their lives and loved them dearly.
Karen was a great friend to many, whether it be organizing social events or engaging in… spirited… debates. She was also a dedicated educator for 29 years, making sure future generations aspired and achieved their hopes and dreams.
Karen was passionate about traveling and the outdoors. She loved the mountains and the beach in particular. She greatly appreciated the history and culture of Italy and hardly missed a national park in the states. Most importantly, Karen was known for her inability to give up on anything, evidenced by her vigorous fight against an unfair cancer that took her from us too soon.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be Sunday, July 20 from 1-4:30pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109, followed by a Celebration of Karen's Life at 4:30pm.
