Marie Ann Long

Baptized into the hope of the Resurrection and fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, she entered the fullness of life on November 23, 2012, at the age of 91. Devoted daughter of the late Marie and Louis Altekruse and dear sister to the late Edwina (George) Lund, she is survived by her loving brother and sister, Thomas (Shirley) Long and Carol (the late Patrick) Berger, her beloved nieces and nephews—Tom (Marsha) Lund, Mark (Joanne) Lund, John (Linda) Lund, Christine Lund, Mike (Robyn) Lund, Tom (Pat) Long, Bill (Cindy) Long, Kathleen (Bill) Springer), Colleen Long (Chris Satterfield), Catherine (Jimmy) Giroir, Patrick (Angela) Berger, Anne-Marie (Cesar) Moreno, many great nieces and nephews, and a host of very dear friends.

A graduate of St. Mark’s Academy, St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, and St. Francis College, Marie lived a full life of compassionate service to others. An O.R. nurse at St. John’s Mercy Hospital for forty years, she also served two tours of duty as a Navy nurse (WWII and Korea), retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Generous in all things, she made the world a better place every day that she lived, and her goodness will be missed.

Visitation Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Raphael the Archangel Church beginning at 9:00 a.m., with the Mass to follow at 10:30. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
