Duncan; dear brother- in-law of Ann Boll, Louise Recupero, Victor (Rosemary) Recupero, and Peter (Mary) Recupero; dear son of the late Martin and Mary Meagher; dear brother of the late John Meagher; dear uncle and friend.
Marty and Vickie were the heart of our family. Marty watched over us and helped us with any of our problems. He instilled a love of nature, art and learning in us all. He loved talking to people and seemed to always have a connection to those he met. His Irish wit and cartoons were a source of great enjoyment to everyone.
He attended Beaumont High School and Washington University. During World War II he served in the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Section of the 1st Battalion, 272nd Infantry, 69th Division, the first Allied force to link up with the Russian forces at Torgau, Germany in 1945.
Martin’s passion was gardening. He was a volunteer at the Missouri Botanical Garden for twenty-two years. He was one of five members of the MBG Daylily Association with his very dear friends Chick Buehrig, Lois Raley, Bill Lenz and Marvin Hook. He also was a member of the West County Daylily Club. Please think of him as you walk through the Jenkins Daylily Garden at MBG.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer, employed by Union Electric for forty plus years. During that time he worked on many projects, including substations, dispatch facilities and power plants, among them the Taum Sauk Pumped Hydro Project. He was the recipient of the St. Louis IEEE Engineering Award for the year 1989 for accomplishments in the field of Electrical Engineering, including design of control and protective systems for the reliable and economic operation of Union Electric’s transmission, distribution and generation facilities.
Thank you to his doctor, Dr. Alan Braverman, for his kindness over many years, Dr. Robin Kundra, and to the ICU unit at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters for the loving care he received there.
We will miss you terribly Dad and Gramps!
