Yes sad news! Miss Mason. She was always involved with all the performances - plays, choral, and even the student dances.  I never took her class but remember I was a draftee because she found out I could tie waist bows on costumes that were straight and hung just the way she wanted them. It was my only job till I could teach it to someone else. I also remember she allowed me to borrow her hoop slip so I could see it and make one appropriate for a dress I was sewing. Her kind deeds helped me through times when I was alone. God bless her for all eternity.

This is sad news, indeed.  Mary Jo and I  -- and about 130 others -- were classmates at Rosati-Kain High School from 1960 - 1964.  She was smart as a whip and could become a force to be reckoned with if she felt there was an important issue to address.  I like how the Navy (my son serves now) terms it:  Fair winds and following seas, Mary Jo.

Oh my, where to start with my dear aunt. She was an intensely private person, yet she never shied away from making her opinions known. She was a teacher, through and through, though, her teaching was never limited to the classroom. She would not tolerate ignorance and always seized the opportunity to enlighten people with knowledge. She taught me to lose with dignity and never stop trying to be better. 
She taught me that being frugal is ok, but the “good stuff” is worth it.  She always accepted me as I was and was always encouraging. 
I will miss her dearly. 

I was lucky to be one of Mary Jo Mason’s students.  I learned so much about world through her witty take on history.  She always knew how to make information which was dry come to life.  She found ways to connect history to everyday life and interesting details not in the books.  More importantly she allow me the space to be creative when we wrote our research papers.  Plus, she put up with an exhausted teenager who had too much on her plate.   I am  greatful for my education and her wisdom which prepared me for my life ahead.

I loved Ms. Mason as a History teacher and as a theater tech director.  She showed a lot of young women how to be smart, strong and independent and held everyone she taught to a high standard.  She had a dry sense of humor that was always appreciated during long hours of building sets and working backstage. She was a treasured and influential part of the Rosati-Kain community and she will be missed.  Melissa Lake Smith , Class of 1989

I want to extend my condolences to Mary Jo's family. She was truly one of my favorite teachers because of her sarcasm, wit, and deep knowledge of history. I also enjoyed working on the stage crew of several R-K theater productions -- she showed us how it was done!

I really looked forward to attending "Ms. Mason's" history classes.  She made Western Civ and 1818 American History I and 2 so interesting!  I loved the way her wit, intelligence and passion for history engulfed the room.
