

Tompkins, Richard P. “Dick”, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Saturday September 24, 2016. He was born at home in Peekskill, New York on September 23, 1937 to late Richard P. Tompkins Sr. and Evelyn Baisley Tompkins. He was 79 years old.
He was married to Mary Ellen Murden Tompkins formerly of Peekskill, New York for 57 years who now resides in St. Louis, Missouri. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter Sharron (Glen) Stagnitta; three sons, Daniel L. (Darlene Brusie) Tompkins, Michael (John Hall) Tompkins and Ric (Phyllis Novak) Tompkins; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; he leaves one sister, Evelyn Wincek and a brother Robert Tompkins. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dudley and Ronald Tompkins.
He graduated from Peekskill High School in 1955; upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he received an Honorable Discharge. He was a retired NYS Trooper and worked upon his retirement as a court officer for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Dept. He was well known in the area and was dubbed “Duke” by his brother’s in grey. He was an NRA member, an avid Yankees Baseball and New England Patriots fan. A former member of Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, NY and a member of the Knights of Columbus in East Durham. He will be missed for his “Grumpy” but loving sense of life and humor.
A private family memorial mass was held at Epiphany of Our Lord in St. Louis, Missouri celebrated by Reverend Thomas M. Pastorius. Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family at Hillside Cemetery in Peekskill, New York.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to St. Jude’s children’s hospital, which held a special meaning for Dick.
