Robert was the beloved husband of the late Inda June Arnold; beloved father of Linda Dodson, Karen Finnegan, Julie Arnold, Robert Arnold, Richard Arnold, and Hugh Arnold; and cherished grandpa of 10.
Robert built a career in the US Navy beginning in World War II and retired as a Master Chief with more than 25 years of service. His wife, Inda, followed him and supported his career through many relocations and deployments. One of Inda's many contributions to Robert's transfers was her sense of adventure and excitement at the prospect of moving to a new place; this attitude she instilled in her children.
He was serving on an aircraft carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis under President Kennedy while stationed in Rhode Island at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station, an extremely stressful time for all.
When Robert retired, he and Inda moved to Pensacola, Florida, home of the Blue Angels, where he volunteered for 7 years at the Air Museum.
Robert's love of flying never faltered, and at age 70 he did his first parachute jump. Robert and Inda were married in 1947 and were devoted to each other and the family until Inda's death. Robert continued his support for his family and friends, and his patriotism to his country never waivered.
On Monday, July 7, 2025 at 11:30am, Robert and Inda will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri, where Robert will receive Full Military Honors.
