Sandy was born to Arthur Henry Hackman and Mary Ann Hackman on July 23rd, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri.
In both career and in hobbies, Sandy did not hesitate to dive in head first. She had a major role in a St. Louis medical testing laboratory before retiring from that endeavor to start and grow a set of Baskin Robbins franchises, much to the delight and benefit of her younger family members. She went on to enter the pizza business, operating a series of St. Louis pizza parlors.
One love of Sandy’s was horses - she was even known to ride her horse, Dreamer, to the pool at the family home from her stable nearby. She would then go on to buy a kiln and enjoy making ceramic statuary; and after enjoying a class with her Aunt Marge, she would take on painting as a hobby. She was a dog lover and even dabbled in breeding Boxers for a bit. From Boston Terriers to Boxers, and with Poodles in between, Sandy had many four legged companions accompany her in life. Finally, Sandy enjoyed quilting with her sister Ann and her niece Mary. Creations made for her family will be heirlooms for generations to come.
Though Sandy never had children, her family was at the center of her life. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, cousin, and aunt who dedicated her life to the joy of those around her.
She especially took great joy in her nieces and nephews. As their families grew, she added to her family - spouses, children, even dogs. She loved and cherished each one. Each has memories of her warmth, her kindness, and her absolute commitment to us.
Many of those memories include her legendary pool parties. Sandy would find, and sometimes create, any reason at all to throw one. Some were huge affairs, attended by friends, friends of friends, family, and family of family. Some were much more intimate gatherings. Some consisted simply of Sandy and one or two of her favorite people. A trip to Grandma and Sandy’s house was always a memorable treat.
Sandy’s commitment to family was exemplified throughout her mother Mary Ann’s late years. With the support of the rest of the family, Sandy committed herself to her mom’s care, allowing her to gracefully age and pass at home, surrounded by family.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary Ann Hackman, and brothers-in-law, John M. Behrens and Bob Reagan. She is survived by her siblings, Ann Reagan of Pensacola FL; Arthur Hackman and wife Mary Anne of St. Jacob, IL; and her nieces and nephews Mary Dykes and husband Ken of Marine, IL, Andrew Dykes and wife Christine of St. Jacob, Il (Bianca, Toby, Herschel), Chris Dykes and wife Brooke of Highland, Il (Addison, Elena, Harper), Matthew Dykes and wife Danielle of St. Jacob, Il (Bradin, Edward); John A Behrens and wife Tracy of Gerald MO, John M Behrens and Melanie of Owensville, MO (Nora, Jack), Gene Behrens and fiancé Frankie of Springfield, MO; Julie Taylor and husband Randy of Norman OK, Drake Taylor, Logan Taylor, Noel Taylor; Ruth Biggs and husband Rich of Melbourne, FL, Luke Biggs, Abigail Biggs, Veronica Cook and husband Bill of Keller, TX, Lauren Cook, Michael Cook and wife Gayley of Lubbock, TX; Bud Hackman and wife Erika of Middletown, NY, Aidan Hackman, Oscar Hackman; as well as many other cousins, family, and friends who will dearly miss her.
