

She was born on July 15, 1932 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of the late John M. and Charlotte J. (Gottschalk) Pitman. She graduated from Washington High School and went to work at St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance where she met and married Raymond A. Schnaith on September 1, 1956.
Genevieve "Gen" was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who raised her three boys with love and patience. When the boys were older she worked for school district 622 in the North St. Paul High School library. All three sons attended the University of Minnesota. Gen loved to spend time at the family cabin on Little Boy Lake and caught many fish there. She also had a passion for genealogy, meticulously tracing generations of family ancestry. Her creativity shone through her beautiful counted cross-stitch and hardanger pieces, which she often gave as treasured gifts. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include sons: Kent of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Gary of Seattle, WA; and Eric of Red Wing, MN. 5 grandchildren: Christian, Riri, William, Abigail, and Ryan, and 7 great grandchildren.
Gen was preceded in death by her husband Ray who passed away on July 8, 2000; her parents, her brothers Lester Pitman, Earl Pitman, and Stanley Pitman and sisters-in-law Jane (Kennedy) Pitman, Nancy (Schliek) Pitman, Elaine (Schnaith) Malaski, Patricia (Schnaith) Carman, and Norma (Schnaith) Kohls and brothers-in-law William Malaski, Victor Carman, and Rodney Kohls.
Following Gen's wishes, she has been cremated and will be inurned at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with her husband.
A funeral service will be held at Path of Grace United Methodist Church, 759 County Rd B E, Maplewood, MN 55117, Tuesday December 16th 2025 at 11:00 AM (visitation at 10 AM). Inurnment the same day at 1:45 PM.
