She was born in Winneconne, Wisconsin, and was raised in nearby Oshkosh. After graduating from high school in Oshkosh, Mary Margaret went to work in customer service for the telephone company in Milwaukee. While there she responded to a newspaper advertisement seeking flight attendant trainees to work for Minneapolis-based Northwest Airlines. After her employment as a flight attendant with Northwest, she worked in a variety of secretarial and administrative capacities in the Twin Cities area.
While in Minneapolis, Mary Margaret joined an ecumenical christian community where she worshipped and served the Lord with committed fellow believers. It was within this context that Mary Margaret met her future husband Donald. They were married in January of 1983, and had been married 43 years at the time of her passing.
Mary Margaret enjoyed cooking, watching movies with Donald, loving her cats, cheering on her Green Bay Packers, going to garage sales, spending time with children, and taking in the beauty of nature.
She was a longtime member (25 years) of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church on the east side of St. Paul. Though health concerns limited her attendance in recent years, her faith was vital to her and she deeply valued relationships with her brothers and sisters at Holy Trinity. Before attending Holy Trinity, she was a member of Messiah Episcopal Church in St. Paul where she enjoyed praying with people as a member of Messiah’s healing team.
Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Wegner and Clara (Yost) Wegner.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Donald Brustman, sister Teresa Linssen, nephew Bryan Hoell, stepsons Peter Brustman (Kelly) and Mark Brustman, and several cousins. In addition, she is survived by Naomi Kurth - who was like a daughter to her.
