Jung was born on January 15, 1937, in Seoul, Korea, the son of Su Kyong Yum and Kyong Hee Yum (Park). He devoted over 30 years of his career to civil service in the Engineering Department for the State of Kansas. In addition, alongside his wife, he successfully established, owned, and operated one of the largest retail boutiques in Kansas for more than three decades.
Jung cultivated an active and eclectic life. He deeply valued the arts and found great joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in their musical pursuits, attending band, orchestra, jazz, violin, piano, and choir performances. He also appreciated opera and attended renowned orchestra performances at the Kennedy Center. An avid reader, he was particularly drawn to philosophy and poetry.
He was excited to travel, particularly to Europe and the West Coast to visit family, and found pleasure in gardening, home renovations, and caring for his numerous animals, especially his large dogs, canaries, and finches throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan who looked forward to March Madness and the Masters each year. He cherished traditions such as visiting the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C., and made it a point to watch all Oscar-nominated films annually. One of his greatest joys was playing golf with his daughter at dawn on weekends.
Above all, Jung treasured his family. He devoted his life to being present for his children and grandchildren, attending to their daily lives and celebrating their accomplishments. He especially loved swimming and taking long walks with his wife and grandchildren, creating lasting memories through these simple, meaningful moments. He was, for his family, a place of comfort—a true ‘Happy Place.’
Jung was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters: Hyun Sook Hoskins, Hyun Jung Cannady, Hyun Kwang Yum, Hyun Ku Kim, and Kap Suk Hong.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sang Ok Yum; his daughters, Soo Jin Place (James Hall) and SooMi Yum; his brother, Kyu Hyun Yum; his grandchildren, Courtney Clinkingbeard, Maxwell Clinkingbeard, Sabrina Yum Shuster, and Katrina Yum Shuster; and his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bukovsky.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at South Forsyth Memorial Chapel, 3545 Peachtree Pkwy, Suwanee, GA 30024. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am.
