A.G. “Jerry Divers, born on September 17, 1935, died peacefully on May 17, 2024. He was 88 years old. He grew up in Clearwater where he attended local schools and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1953. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College and graduated from the University of Florida in 1957 where he majored in Banking and Finance. He served 15 years in the United States Naval Reserve including four years of service on active duty. With the press of family and business, he took early retirement with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was active in civic, social, and religious activities. He received numerous recognitions for his contributions to those activities. He was predeceased by his parents Earle and Evelyn Divers, sister Carolyn Pyatt, and wife of 53 years, Jean Bacon Divers, whom he often described as the light of his life. Jerry is survived by his sons and his daughters-in-law who were his best friends- Alan and Heidrun Divers and Brett and Pam Divers- and by his grandchildren, Ryan Divers and Hayley Divers. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in downtown Tampa on Thursday, May 23rd at 3:00 PM. A reception will take place after the service at Tampa Yacht and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, Jerry would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Jean Bacon Divers Scholarship Fund at the Berkeley Preparatory School.
