

Bert is survived by wife, Rosanne; daughter, Suzie Zendegui; granddaughters Amber Glab of Norfolk, Virginia and Jessica Keaton of Aiken, South Carolina and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Edward Castro, his parents Jesus and America Castro, brother Ed Castro and sister Alicia Diaz all of Tampa Florida.
Bert was born on December 26, 1926 in Tampa Florida to Jesus and America Castro. He graduated from Plant High School in 1944 where he lettered in track. Immediately after high school, Bert enlisted in the Army where he served in Germany during the final year of World War II. He married Rosanne Loy, an Elementary school teacher in 1951. Bert began working for GTE as an installer and over his career advanced through many positions eventually retiring from GTE’s commercial marketing department. Over time, the couple welcomed 2 children into their home and Bert set about teaching them to be hard working and self-determined. His children remember Bert as amazingly self sufficient and a firm yet loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals with great enthusiasm and determination.
Bert was accomplished at construction and built three houses for his family, essentially single handedly. He was a generous and outgoing individual who loved telling jokes, playing tennis, folk dancing with his beloved wife and who was passionate about University of Florida Gator Football. When Bert’s daughter and son were in high school, he was an active and dedicated member of the Dad’s Club at Tampa Catholic High School
A gathering is schedule for 11:00 AM and a Memorial Service is scheduled for 12:00 PM, January 15, 2022 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home on South MacDill Avenue. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bert's life. The family would like to thank the staff at Memorial Hospital and his home visitation nurse for their care.
