Alice Paleveda Carlton died peacefully in her sleep at the Estate at Hyde Park on May 12, 2016 in Tampa, Florida at the age of 65. Alice is survived by her mother, Martha McHale Paleveda, her eight siblings, husband of 40 years, Dr. Leffie M. Carlton III M.D., daughters, Lindsay Carlton Davis (Dr. Bennett Davis, M.D.), Stacey Carlton Espinosa (Allen Espinosa) and grandson Charlie Davis. She is preceded in death by her father, Andrew Joseph Paleveda. Alice was born in Tampa, FL on November 1, 1950. She attended Christ the King Catholic Day School, Tampa Catholic High School, and graduated from Gordon Keller School of Nursing in 1971. She was a nurse on the surgical floor and in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Tampa General Hospital. After a short period of time, she was promoted to Nursing Supervisor of the ICU performing both supervisory and patient care duties, the youngest nurse to ever receive this position. On August 9, 1975 she married Dr. Leffie M. Carlton, III M.D. from Tampa. They welcomed their first daughter, Lindsay Carlton Davis in 1980, and their second daughter, Stacey Carlton Espinosa in 1983. Her children remember her loving affection, selfless devotion and optimistic attitude. She continued nursing by working for her brother in law, Dr. Norman Bruce Edgerton M.D. and then for her husband until his retirement in 2013. While an extremely talented nurse, Alice also had passions for dance, reading, fitness, football and being outside. A natural beauty, Alice had a tremendous sense of style combined with a contagious, energetic spirit. Always a caregiver, she took joy and pride helping others when they needed it most. Most notably her mother-in-law, and father before they passed. People found themselves naturally drawn to Alice, and she will be sorely missed. A visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, May 17th from 5pm-7pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home located at 605 S. MacDill Avenue. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 18th @ 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church at 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Alice’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Metropolitan Ministries at 2002 N. Florida Avenue Tampa, FL 33602. The family would like to thank everyone for sharing their love, support and special memories of Alice.
