Carol Matthews

Carol Matthews was born on August 22, 1942 in Manhattan, New York to Erma Kennedy (surname Williamson) and Colie Kennedy. She attended the High School of Industrial Arts for fashion design, and she later obtained degrees from The Fashion Institute of Technology and Adelphi University. Several years later, Carol opened a boutique with her sister Yvonne where they designed, manufactured and sold women clothing. With her mind and hands, Carol created beautiful clothing, home furnishings and art work. She took these skills and created a business designing beautiful products for the Christmas holidays.

Carol was also an avid runner, and ran many New York City marathons as well as other marathons throughout the country.

Carol was the Director of Human Resources for the Department of New York City Cultural Affairs. She retired from this job in 1996, and then she and her husband Joe moved to Florida. Joe predeceased her in April of 2023.

Carol is survived by her sisters Yvonne, Candice, Linda and Monique, sisters in-laws Diane and Ruth, brother Rickey, nieces Janine and Ulise', grand nephews Maurice, Richard, Jordan, Luke and Colin, grand nieces Kristen, Raven, Zaquay, Zanay and Victoria, great grand nieces Paige and Zanai, great grand nephews Marcus, Liam and Logan, and a host of cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life for Carol will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Blount and Curry Funeral Home Oldsmar We, 6802 Silvermill Drive, Tampa, FL 33635, followed by a memorial service to begin at 5:00PM
