Dennis Charles Thompson, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and respected retiree from the Air Force, passed away on April 15, 2024. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 3rd, 1971 to Inez "Peaches" Thompson and Charles "C" Morris. He quickly demonstrated a bright and curious mind, which led to him being skipped a grade during his time at Dunlap Elementary. His education continued through Winslow Township Elementary School #3 and Edgewood Regional Schools in New Jersey, where he participated in JROTC all four years and excelled in athletics, including football and basketball.
Dennis originally enlisted in the Air Force in 1988 where he rose through the ranks and served his country for 20 years. During his military tenure, he was able to serve in some of the most beautiful places to the likes of the Philippines; South Korea; Tampa, Florida; Panama City, Panama; Sembach, Germany; Cyprus, and Crestview Florida where he retired. Whilst serving his country and raising his beautiful daughters, he managed to acquire a total of 5 degrees with his most coveted accomplishment being a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Columbia University. Dennis also excelled in sports throughout his military sports career dominating the fields in football, softball, and basketball to which his numerous trophies are a testament of.
Dennis' zest for life was evident in his love for travel. He enjoyed fishing and being a sports fan for NFL and professional boxing as he admired Muhammad Ali. He had a special talent for storytelling and serenading women all across the globe. He could light up any room with his humor and infectious laugh, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a "Bad Man", as he enjoyed referring to himself as a term of power, strength, and endearment.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Deshalle Thompson, Dishema Lynch; grandson, Christian Thompson; adoptive daughter Genesis Thompson; brothers, Bobby Stewart, Fred "Prince" Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Keith Thompson, Linwood Morris, and his sisters Myra Thompson and Shiela Thompson. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Stewart and sister Victoria “Tilly” Thompson. As well as his mother Inez “Peaches” Thompson and father Charles “C” Morris.
Dennis’ life was a vivid tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure. His legacy will be cherished and remembered through the stories he told and the lives he touched. His family and friends will miss him deeply but take comfort in knowing that his joyous spirit will live on through them.
A visitation for Dennis will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Blount & Curry Life Event Center, 605 S MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL 33609. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10:00 am, 605 S Macdill Ave, Tampa, Florida 33609. Followed by a committal service with Air Force Military Honors at 2:00 pm held at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida 33679.
