Ernest attended public schools in Cleveland, Ohio; graduated from Collinwood High in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers 1943-1946 and met the Russians on the Elbe River in May 1945. In 1948 was registered by the U.S. Coast Guard as a Maritime Radio Operator at the Port of New York. He did electronic repairs in Boston, New York, Cleveland and Tampa. In 1955 his wife Betsy (Nee Haley) died of M.S. in Cleveland. Ernest was awarded a BA Cum Laude in Economics at University of South Florida, Tampa, in 1979. In 1988 he retired from the Florida Department of H.R.S., Tampa.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Sandy Rinaldi, of Henderson, Arkansas; his grandsons, Mark & Brent Turney, Wisconsin; & his granddaughter, Haley Cloud, Arizona; & four great-grandchildren.
