

Harry Craig enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 1, 1953, at the age of 17. During his tenure he received the following honors: 1st OLC to AF commendation metal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star; Rep of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; AF Good Conduct Medal; 2 Bronze OLC; AF Longevity Service Award with Four Bronze OLC. He retired as Staff Sergeant Harry Craig on April 30, 1973.
SSgt Craig then worked at Defense Construction & Supply Center, DSCC fka DCSC for years until retiring from work. He was an avid bowler and participated in many leagues. He also enjoyed playing various card games and going to the casino. Harry took up the sport of boxing in his 20s and enjoyed watching a good match. During his later years living in Tampa, FL, SSgt Harry Craig, joined and attended St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Correggio Reeves. He never stopped growing and learning. In the end, nothing took away from his capacity to love and show love for God, his family and friends.
He was preceded by his parents William Craig Sr., and Pearl (Pitts) Craig, brothers William Craig Jr., George Craig, John Lewis Craig Sr., Robert Craig, and sisters Orabelle Harper and Della Craig; children Rosaland Christine Craig, Ralph Alfredo Craig, and Harry Craig III.
Harry Craig is survived by his siblings, Richard W Craig Sr., and Dorothy Craig; son Harry Craig Jr., daughters Yvonne Craig, Annette Craig, and Tiffany Craig. He has eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
Harry Craig always opened his home to those coming in from out of state for visits or trying to get away from bad environments or situations. Year after year, he traveled home to Toledo, Ohio for many family occasions. Harry always had music, pictures and films of everyone. When he shared wisdom it was always through simple sayings or thoughts. Some examples, “Don’t take no wooden nickel”, “You only got one nerve, don’t let nobody get on it”, “Ain’t no need worrying bout it”, “Many times you won’t feel like going to school/work, just go head, get up & do it anyway”! Staff Sergeant Harry Craig will always be a loved and appreciated brother, cousin, daddy, grandad/grandpa, and uncle.
Military honors and a farewell salute will be held at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis Missouri on Wednesday May 15, 2024 at 11:30am.
A memorial service will follow at The Refreshing Place from 3-6pm, on Saturday May 25, 2024 in Toledo, Ohio.
