John Childs Thrift Jr.

John was born in Tampa, Florida on March 20, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Thrift; his brother, Mike Thrift; and his sister, Jane Thrift Zugenbuehler.

He graduated from Plant High School and the University of Florida. Family was very important to John. He was especially proud of his loving wife of 57 years, Ginger Thrift. His children, Jennifer Thrift (Cory) and Jack Thrift (Sheila), were very special to him, and his greatest joy was his grandchildren - Emma Thrift and Kate and Virginia Frier. John was also blessed by a large extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

John spent more than 50 years in the corrugated container industry. He started with Crown Zellerbach in 1966 and worked his way up to Regional Manager in the industry. John was a former member of the Merrymakers Club, Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. In John’s final years he found his greatest happiness traveling with his children and grandchildren, kayaking, fishing, and playing golf with his best friends at MacDill Airforce Base.
