

Jose “Cheo” Perez, 93, of Tampa, Florida passed away earlier this month. Jose was born in Havana, Cuba and in the early 1960’s, he moved to New York and lived there and the New Jersey area for several years. His last move was to Tampa, in the early 1970’s.
He accepted a custodian position at A.P. Leto High School and stayed at the same school for nearly 30 years until he retired. During his career, he was promoted to Head Custodian as he was highly regarded and respected at the school by the principal, teachers, his staff and the students.
Jose was a very kind, hardworking and generous person. He loved to spend time with his family and his love for life will never be forgotten.
Jose is survived by his wife Emma Perez, who he was married to for 71 years, his two daughters Cecilia Valdes (Jose) and Alina Echevarria, his grandchildren, Jessica Shellard (David), Erika Chambers (Thomas), Alex Valdes (Michelle), Kristina Evans (Carim), Orlando Echevarria (Kayla), his great grandchildren, Natalie, Emma, Andrew, Nathan, Ezra, Lucas, Jacob, Verona, and Oliver; his brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews. Jose was preceded in death by his parents and sister (Dalia).
Visitation will be held on February 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL. Funeral Service will be held on February 20, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Gonzalez Funeral Home, after he will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL.
