

He was a Graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, Florida Tech, and Osceola University. After graduating from both colleges, he became Head Instructor of Data Processing at Florida Tech, and taught Data Processing and Information Technology classes at Osceola U.
He served his country in the Military Police Corp of the U.S. Army.
After completing initial training, he became a Confinement Specialist and then a guard at Fort Gordon, GA. From there he was transferred to Dothan, AL where he assisted in converting a guard house to a military stockade.
After serving, he returned to Utica where he met and married Patricia, on July 21, 1962. After having their first child, Theresa, they relocated to Merritt Island, FL, where they had their second child, Anthony. They celebrated 63 beautiful years of marriage. He worked for Federal Electric at the Space Center in Cape Canaveral until they moved to Tampa, where he began his career with GTE Data Services. After his retirement from GTE, he established Joseph Caramato, LTD, a paint, general repair, and maintenance company.
Joe was a Master Mason for over 20 years. He was Master of High Twelve Lodge #317 and an affiliated Past Master of Holyrood Lodge #257. He was a past Monarch of Zendah Grotto and a past President of Florida State Grotto Association. He was a proud Shriner and Honorary Member of the Tin Lizzies Unit.
Joe was preceded in death by his sister Caroline Summa. He is survived by his sister Antoinette Cangello, along with his wife Patricia and their two children, daughter Theresa Martin and her husband Keith, and son Anthony Caramato and his wife Jennifer.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Joseph, Amanda and her husband David, Rebecca and her husband Jake, and great grandchildren Jackson and Colin.
In keeping with his wishes, services are being held at Blount & Curry Life Event Center-MacDill, located at 605 S MacDill Ave, Tampa, FL 33609. The gathering for family and friends will be March 8, 2026 from 10am - 12pm, with a service immediately following.
