Marilyn Courtney Irenze of Homosassa FL was summoned by God to be another Guardian Angel on July 3rd 2021. Born September 30, 1934 to Paul & Gertrude Ventimiglia in Ossining NY. Mom was the 4th of 5 children that grew up in the depression. Mom knew the value of of a dollar and passed that on to her children. Being a single Mother raising her children on a single income wasn’t easy. Her father Paul (Grampa V) was always there to lend a helping hand which guided her crazy sons on the right path.
Mom graduated from Pine Plains HS and attended Dutchess CC. She was a telephone operator at the old Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie NY in the mid 60’s & then went into law enforcement. She was the 1st Female to graduate from the NYS Fire Fighting Academy in Montour Falls the NYS Police Academy in the mid 70’s. Later she became a NYS Fire Inspector for nursing homes and home facilities in Dutchess & Ulster County. Mom knew no barriers at 5’4” 100lbs and was a pioneer for woman in her field. She finally retired after 30 years kicking the whole way out. Then the FUN started.
Mom’s passions were jumping in the car with DIL Patti (my wife) and her Niece Denise running the roads which usually meant covering multiple states at a time, getting up at the crack of dawn to go shopping with them every Black Friday they could. Even while living in FL if a trip to Nashville was planned she jumped on it. She was happy being with her sons and their friends no matter what they did as long as we were together and there was laughter. Going shopping, days later asking Scott to go to lunch to get him do do returns because she didn’t like what she bought. Even Mike made those trips with her. Moms Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were so special to her and spoiled them since birth. She was grateful she got to see her most recent GG child.
Mom sang in multiple Country Western Bands in the Red Hook area & solo performances at the Elks Club in Red Hook, the Moose Club in Palenville, & Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck (where her parents lived) every holiday especially Christmas. Also the Northdale OWLS in Tampa where she loved the friendships she made there. Singing was her passion and her Love was her Family. Mom was the cement that kept all of her loved ones together.
She is survived by her husband Michael Irenze of Homosassa FL, brother Andrew Ventimiglia of AZ & Gloria Sockabasin of ME. Sons Brian (Patti) Courtney of Baldwinsville NY, Scott (Scooter) Courtney of Tampa FL, daughter Sherry Gordon, two Grandsons Sean (Barbie) Courtney of FL & Kevin (Elizabeth) Courtney of VA, granddaughters Toni Lavin of NJ, Christina (Dell) Topacio of CA, 5 Great Grandchildren and many nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews Predeceased by her previous husband Thomas Brady of Tampa Fl, Brothers Paulie, Vincent, Sister in-law Joan Ventimiglia and Brother in-law David Sockabasin.
