Born on October 29, 1937, in Marquette, Iowa, Pete was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who dedicated 26 years of service to his country, including an active duty tour during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his commitment to service with a second career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he carried mail for 19 years.
Pete was known for his wit, quiet strength, and hardworking nature. He never complained and he faced life’s challenges with grace and humor. He loved golf and was especially proud of scoring a hole-in-one on the 14th hole at MacDill Air Force Base on April 25, 1996—a story he told with a smile and a sparkle in his eye. But above all, Pete’s greatest pride and joy was his family, including his little buddy, 15-year old Yorkie, Luke.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Margaret Cook; his children, Jerry Cook, Donna (Danny) Choate, and Debbie Melody; his granddaughters, Stacey (Benjamin) and Stephanie (Dan); his great-grandchildren Olivia, Jackson, and Declan; and his sister Judith (Cook) Ripon. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Della (McCarrell) Cook, as well as his brothers, Albert, Floyd, William, Robert, James, and Clarence Cook, and his sister Virginia (Cook) Fortier.
Pete’s life was one of service, love, and quiet dignity. His legacy lives on in the family who cherished him and the lives he touched with his kindness.
Funeral arrangements are to be determined.
