

Life-long resident of Tampa, Florida, only son of Jose (Joe) F. Colmenares and Mary Fullmer, “Dr. C” was a graduate of Madison Jr. High and Salutatorian of H.B. Plant High School, Class of 1958. He was the Western Conference MVP in 1957 and ’58 and high scorer on Plant’s 1958 State Championship basketball team. He attended the University of Tennessee on a full scholarship and started at guard. He graduated from Emory School of Dentistry, University of Pennsylvania and completed his oral surgery residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He practiced oral surgery in Tampa and Brandon for 43 years. He was a devoted coach of little league softball for many years. He was an accomplished free diver and spearfisherman. His exploits were many and he was renowned for his resilient and adventurous nature. Nick was guided by his faith and trust in God. Nick was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Edwards Colmenares. He is survived by his son, Nicholas F. Colmenares, Jr., daughter, Katharine (Katie) Colmenares, first cousin Shirley Colmenares and two grandchildren, Nico and Elena Colmenares.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Thursday, June 16th at Blount and Curry Funeral Home on Macdill Ave from 5 to 7 PM. Donations to the Tampa Humane Society.
