Born in Elwood, Indiana, Dr. Dellinger resided in Land O’Lakes and Tampa for 50+ years. He holds a Ed.D. from U. of Colorado and the M.S. in Educational Administration from U. of Florida. His B.S. is from his home state: University of Indianapolis.
Beginning as a football coach and science teacher at Buchanan Junior H.S.(Tampa),
Dr. Bob established a career as a school administrator, serving at Land O’ Lakes and Pasco High Schools, Schwettman Adult Ed Center, and the Pasco County District Office. Bob’s passion was to keep ALL children in school as long as possible. He served as Drop-out Prevention Supervisor for Pasco County Schools in the 1980-1990s. Bob took his family with him on assignment by DOD schools to Chofu Air Base in Japan. Son Jade was born in Tokyo.
Accompanied by his 7th Grade sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Dr. Susan (Roush) Dellinger, this Indiana couple traversed the world. Living in Japan, Colorado, and Oregon, they settled in Lutz/Land O’ Lakes and spent the last 30 years of their lives in Tampa FL. During those years, Bob accompanied his wife on her lecture tours in 25 countries and numerous cruise ships sailing the world.
Bob is predeceased by sister, Sharon and brother, Michael. He is survived by sister Sandra Hexamer (Daniel) in Indiana, and by his son, Jade Roush Dellinger [Cathy Sowell]. Although son Jade preferred soccer to his father’s love of football, Bob was very proud of his son (a Land O’ Lakes “Laker”) throughout his life. Bob was a kind and generous man - a true “home body” who loved playing Host and always had a quick joke for everyone.
Celebration of Life to be at Blount-Curry Funeral Home on South MacDill Ave in Tampa FL on Sunday, Sept 8 (5-7 pm). For northern friends, Bob’s remains will be buried in Oakland City Indiana on Saturday, Sept 14 at Lamb-Basham Funeral Home from 2-6 pm. All friends are invited and will be welcomed by the Roush and Dellinger family members.
