Sheila Carmen Duffy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 14, 1942, and grew up in Mobile, Alabama, alongside her two brothers, Denis and Gerry.
Sheila graduated from The University of Alabama, where she distinguished herself as vice president and later president of the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Alpha Chi Omega and the president of the Panhellenic Council. Upon graduating, she moved to Atlanta. There, she met her husband, Joseph Mack Thaxton, and they married in 1965.
After a brief stint teaching in Atlanta, Sheila and Joe Mack made Tampa their permanent home. She dedicated her life to being a wife, raising her four sons and helping with ten grandchildren. Sheila was deeply engaged in her faith community, actively participating in a women’s circle group at Christ the King Parish and serving on the Parish Council.
Sheila was a devoted friend, wife, mother and grandmother, never missing a single event of her grandchildren. Her presence and love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband Joe Mack, her parents Denis Sr. and Carmen Bourg Duffy, and her brother Denis Duffy Jr. She is survived by her four sons: Duffy (Janelle), David, Drew (Victoria), and Denny (Caroline); her grandchildren: Katy Ann, Laurel, Jessica, JC, Zoe, Sydney, Sam, Will, Charlie, and Sully; great-granddaughter, Rose; her brother, Gerry Duffy; and seven nieces and one nephew.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 9:00AM in the Christ the King Catholic Church 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway Tampa, Florida followed immediately at 10:00AM by a Mass of Christian Burial.
