Theresa "Tessie" Mayor

Theresa “Tessie” Mayor, 91, passed away very unexpectedly on November 27, 2023. She was born on February 22, 1932, to Ignacio and Gasparita Comparetto in Ybor City. She was a lifelong resident of Tampa and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1950. She retired in 1992 after spending over 40 years in the produce business. Tessie lived her life caring for and worrying about the needs of her family and friends over her own. She unhesitantly and unselfishly spent years as the caretaker for her mother and, later, for her husband. She was as generous as she could possibly be, not only with her family, but to many charitable causes as well. Her smile, her laughter and her beautiful spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Ernest Mayor. She is survived by her daughter Catherine (Scott) Zackal and her son Ernest (Jozanne) Mayor Jr. She was a very proud and loving “Nana” to her five grandchildren, Justin (Theresa) Mayor, Erin (Tanner) Fogle, Louis Garcia, Austin (Megan) Mayor, Kierstin (Cameron) Alexander, and two great-grandchildren, Mayor and Emilia Fogle, and “Tia Tessie” to numerous nephews and nieces. A visitation will be held beginning at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Centro Asturiano Cemetery Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in Tessie’s memory.
