Tom Shaffer

Growing up in western Pennsylvania, Tom learned the values of being a strong family man and an active church member. He graduated from Reynoldsville High School and furthered his education at Pennsylvania State University. There, he pitched for the Nittany Lion baseball team earned a B.S. in civil engineering. His distinguished career spanned 45 years designing roads and bridges in Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas. The respect that he earned from his peers was only overshadowed by the love from his family. A devout husband and father, Tom always put his family first; church, board games, family card games, sporting events, coaching, friends and gatherings. His sense of humor could always brighten a room, loved to golf and was an avid Penn State alumnus…Go State.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Betty Shaffer; brother, Dennis Shaffer. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jackie Shaffer; children, Debbie (Todd) Lazar, Bill (Liz) Shaffer, Carolyn (Dave) Westlake; brothers, Ron (Donna) Shaffer and Don (Jane) Shaffer; sister-in-law, Barb Doeringer; grandchildren, Maxim (Lacey) Lazar, Ashley Westlake, Tommy Shaffer, Franklin Westlake, Robbie Shaffer, Nick Shaffer, Joshua Westlake; many cousins, nieces, nephews and an aunt.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10th from 2pm to 4pm with a service at 4pm at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave, Tampa FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
