

Born on October 4, 1956, in Temple, Andrew was the son of Mary (Garcia) Carrillo and Andrew Hernandez, Sr. He attended school in Temple.
His lifelong dedication to service began in 1974 when he joined the United States Army. Andrew served his country honorably and demonstrated courage and commitment in every mission. Over a distinguished 43-year military career, he served in various capacities, including a deployment to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm from 1992 to 1993. Andrew’s bravery and commitment were recognized with numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, two National Defense Ribbons, two awards for NCO Development, two Army Good Conduct Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, and three Army Commendation Medals.
Following his active duty, he continued to serve as a reservist in Bryan, Texas, upholding the highest values of discipline, honor, and service to others. Andrew's post-military life was rich and full, with residences in San Antonio, Texas, and Springfield, Virginia. He was passionate about fishing, enjoyed riding around town, was always ready for a shopping spree with his light-hearted jest, “Let's go spend some money,” and cherished playing billiards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Garcia) Carrillo and Andrew Hernandez, Sr., and his brother, Chris Hernandez. Andrew’s memory will be cherished by his sisters, Mary Carrillo of Temple and Linda Hernandez of Killeen, and brothers Angel Hernandez of San Antonio and Micheal Hernandez of Littlefield.
Andrew will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege to know him. His spirit and the memories he created will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A private burial will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
