

A memorial service for Ann Chamlee of Temple will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Temple with Pastor Tom Robbins, Pastor Hubert Austin, and Pastor Miller Robinson officiating. Burial will be private. Ms. Chamlee died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, November 14, in a local hospital. She was born January 5, 1934 to Glen Arvin and Hazel Meharg Combest in Meridian, Texas. She was reared and educated in Gatesville and graduated Gatesville High School in 1951. She married William Post Chamlee in 1953 and remained married for 24 years. She graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1969 and a Master of Music degree in 1987. A piano teacher for more than 60 years, she retired as a full professor at Temple College in May of 2008. Unable to stop the music, she continued teaching until the day she died. Ann was a philanthropist extraordinaire. She was a member of Child Help, Inc., First Methodist Church, Temple Music Club, Temple City Federated Clubs, Piano Guild, Piano Ensemble, Temple Music Collage, Texas Artists in Residence, TMEA, TCT, CAC, and the first female of the Temple Lions' Club. Ms. Chamlee was predeceased by her mother, her father, her adoptive father Dr. Otis Ray, and her sister Kay Woodley. Survivors include her two daughters, Betsi Chamlee and her husband Jim Gunlock, Meg Chamlee Pitrucha and her husband Craig Pitrucha, all of Temple; a brother, Otis C. (Buck) Ray and his wife Tammy of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters, Susan Stephens of Copperas Cove and Jean Ray Morrison of Gatesville; five grandchildren, Sarah Roberts and husband Korbett of Waco, Kate Hutcheson and husband Byron of Houston, Bethany Zabcik of Austin, Alisa Zabcik of Dallas, and Alan Zabcik of McKinney. Memorials may be made to Ann Chamlee Piano Fund, c/o Extraco Bank, P. O. Box 6122, Temple, TX 76503. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 21, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
