Ann Mikeska Jozwiak

Ann Mikeska Jozwiak, age 93 of Temple, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 in Temple. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Ranjan Cletus as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Taylor. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday with a 7:00 PM Rosary at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Jozwiak was born on January 13, 1919 in Taylor to John and Frances (Valis) Mikeska. She was the fourth of nine children born to a simple Czech family during the Great Depression. Her father was a farmer and butcher, which ensured the family never went hungry. She always enjoyed children and was instrumental in helping with the younger children. She married Steve Jozwiak on June 7, 1938 and they were married for more than 50 years before his death May 31, 1996. They adopted a daughter, Cynthia, (preceded in death in August, 1991) and reared their youngest grandson, John. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandsons and five great-grandchildren. She owned and operated The Diamond Inn, a restaurant in Taylor for many years. She was known for her famous handcrafted hamburgers and homemade family recipe kolaches. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple. At her home in Temple, Mrs. Jozwiak could be found enjoying Catholic programs on ETWN, feeding birds in her backyard, and watering numerous flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, four brothers, Mike Mikeska, Luis Mikeska, Rudy Mikeska and Maurice Mikeska and one sister, Martha Vanecek. Survivors include four grandsons, Steven Schaefer and wife, Mandy of College Station, Jared Schaefer and wife, Rebecca of North Zulch, Matt Schaefer and wife, Ali of Navasota and John Massey of College Station, five great-grandchildren, Rose, Michael, Jonathan, Emilee and Isaac, two brothers, Clem Mikeska of Temple and Jerry Mikeska of Columbus and one sister, Val Lindemann of Temple.
