

Arthur E. Werlang, age 99 of Temple, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Wellington Place Nursing Home. He was born on October 26, 1912 in Estrela, Rio Grande du Sul, Brazil, where he worked as a mathematics and art teacher. He married Erna Schreiner on July 24, 1950 and had three children; two daughters and a son, Edu, who passed away in infancy. Arthur moved to the U.S. in 1965 where he worked as an accountant at the Berghoff Restaurant in Chicago, IL and played the organ at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. He later moved with his wife to Topeka, KS and eventually to Temple, TX. He is survived by his two daughters, Ada Werlang-Perurena of Temple, TX and Ana Ptak of Saint Paul, MN; his sons-in-law, Osvaldo Perurena of Temple, TX and Steven Ptak of Saint Paul, MN; his grandchildren, Andrea and Gabriel Perurena of Temple, TX, Catherine and Mark Ptak of Saint Paul, MN and Melanie Webb and her husband Paul of San Jose, CA. Arthur was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed walking, writing poetry and music, listening to classical music and reading. He was fluent in Portuguese, German, French and English. He had a passion for people, life and learning which he has passed on to his grandchildren. A prayer service will be held at his final resting place at Bellwood Memorial Park at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 11, 2011 with Rev. Tom Chamberlain officiating.
