

Funeral services for Bernice M. Evans, 70, of Little River-Academy will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Little River with Rev. Jon Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Valley Cemetery. Mrs. Evans died Sunday at her residence. Mrs. Evans was born in Eagle Lake to Burnett Jones and Sophia Einkauf Jones. She married W.C. Evans August 18, 1962 in Hallettsville. He preceded her in death Feb. 13, 2011. She graduated from Hallettsville High School, received a BS from Mary Hardin-Baylor College and a MS from Prairie View A & M University. She worked as a teacher and school counselor at the Academy Independent School District for 36 years and as a teacher at Rogers Independent School District for 2 years, having retired in 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Little River and served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a past member of American Counseling Association, lifetime member of Texas State Teachers Association, Bell County Youth Fair Co-Superintendent for Foods Division, Bell County Cowboy/Cowgirl Ring of Honor Inductee, Bell County Youth Fair Plaza of Honor Inductee, Bell County Youth Fair Board member for 2 terms, Bell County 4-H Ambassador Leader, Academy 4-H club manager and leader,Bell County Rodeo secretary, East Bell County Texas A & M Mother's Club member, National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association member. She received the Texas 4-H Salute to Excellence Award, 1960 State All Around High School Champion Cowgirl, 1960 Nueces County Youth Rodeo All Around Champion Cowgirl. She lived in Little River-Academy since 1962. Survivors include two sons Ed Evans and his wife Christy and their children Abigail and Nikolas of Lafayette, Indiana and John Evans and his wife Erica and their children Darby and Isabel of Little River; one sister Henri Mae Jones McCord of Hallettsville.
