

Betty Jo (Davis) Calhoun, age 75, of Troy, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at a local hospital. A visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Troy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Troy, with Rev. Harlan Haines and Dr. Mark Labaj officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Betty was born on August 19, 1942 in Temple to Jackson Sloan and Vera Addie Davis. After graduating from Temple High School in 1960, she married Tommy Calhoun on August 27, 1960 and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. She then attended Temple College and studied legal secretarial work through paralegal courses. She spent many years as a legal secretary, as well as being an 18+ year member of the Bell County Legal Secretaries Association, serving as President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary. She was also a Cameo sales representative and received many accolades. At the time of her retirement in 2009, she worked in administration at Bell County Adult Probation Office. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy. Her hobbies over the years included swimming, water skiing, softball, cooking and traveling. She also served as Secretary of the Temple Youth Softball Association. Her biggest passion was supporting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her nieces and nephews families in their activities. She is survived by her husband Tommy Lee Calhoun of Troy, son Tommy Lee (Kathy) Calhoun, Jr of Troy, daughter Kimberly (Sherri Morgan) Calhoun of Temple, granddaughters Courtney (Lawson) Macal of Troy and Jennifer (Angel) Lurati of Troy, great-grandchildren Liam Macal, Layton Macal and Raegan Lurati, and two granddogs, Riley and Sydney Calhoun. Betty is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Michna of Lorena, Carolyn (Homer) Dye of Troy, Pat Davis of Troy and a brother Gary (Cora) Davis of Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Billy Jack Davis, Charles Davis, and Shirley Ann McIver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Betty’s name to the American Cancer Society or to First Baptist Church of Troy.
