
Bill Fort, 78, of Temple, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 in a local assisted living home. Memorial services will be Monday, January 9, 2006 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary DeSalvo officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Fort was born January 5, 1927 in Weslaco, Texas to Charles Tomlinson and Lesta Baker Fort. He received his BBA from the University of Texas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II being discharged in 1946. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 being discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Mr. Fort was a Red Coat Ambassador for the Temple Chamber of Commerce and a member of Temple Bible Church for Seven years. Mr. Fort's broadcasting experience included television and radio local and national sales management. He had been Director of the Greater Orange, Texas Chamber of Commerce; Director of the Orange, Texas Rotary Club; President of the Lawton, Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce; Junior Warden, Vestryman, and lay reader for All Saints Episcopal Church in Lawton; President of Woodland Hills PTA; Woodland Hills Booster Club in Lawton. He was a member and treasurer of the Oklahoma Broadcaster Association and a member of the Oklahoma Telecasters Association and a member of the VFW. Mr. Fort was preceded in death by his step-son James Clinton Hathaway. Survivors include his wife, Pat Hathaway of Temple; three sons, William Baker Fort, Jr. of Wylie, Texas, Kelly Morse Fort of Magnolia, Texas, and Curtis Haskins Fort, of Belton; one sister, Cornelia A. Davis of Coffeeville, Kansas; Six grandchildren. Memorials May be made to VistaCare Hospice, 2626-B S. 37th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.
