

Funeral services for Billy Joe Gunn, 86, of Clifton will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Rusty Frasier officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Valley Cemetery. Mr. Gunn died Tuesday in Clifton. Mr. Gunn was born July 27, 1930, in Little River to Lester Gunn and Ivy Lambert Gunn. He graduated from Academy High School in 1947. He joined the Texas National Guard in 1947 and served in the 36th Infantry Division and later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was eventually promoted to Major. Mr. Gunn joined the Texas Department of Public Safety and was a Highway Patrol officer from 1951 to 1965. He was stationed in Lampasas and Georgetown during that time. He was a Texas Ranger, with Company F, from 1966 to 1986 and was stationed in Waco and Waxahachie. He then became a Special U.S. Deputy Marshal for the Western District and served in Waco. He was a member of Karem Shrine AAONMS of Waco, The Former Texas Rangers Association, where he served as Director Emeritus; Lifetime member of Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation as Outstanding Peace Officer in McLennan County April 29, 1974 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he had been a member of the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Gunn was preceded in death by his parents Sheriff and Mrs. Lester Gunn; two sisters Nelda Jean Clark and Patsy Gunn and one grandson Jacob Lynn Pack. Survivors include three daughters Judy G. Gunn of Waco, Renee French of Midlothian and Penne Schulz and her husband Jeff of Ft. Worth; four grandchildren Ian Joslin, Justin Schulz, Samantha Schulz and Caitlin Fenton and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Texas Rangers Association Foundation, Former Texas Rangers Association Foundation or to Central Texas Century Club. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
