Bobbye was born on September 14, 1943, in Idabel, OK to Jesse Clardy and Estel Clardy (nee Laughter). She spoke fondly of her childhood in Idabel, especially of the Forest Grove school, her siblings and cousins, and growing up in rural Oklahoma.
Bobbye was a successful businesswoman, owning and operating several businesses in Belton. She and her husband opened Belton’s first floor covering store, Fashion Floors and Interiors and Belton’s first video rental store, Bijou Video. Bobbye also owned and operated BJ’s Flower Shop in Belton for over 30 years. BJ’s Flower Shop specialized in classic floral design and was voted the Best Flower Shop in Bell County for several years in a row. Bobbye loved fresh flowers and creating beautiful bouquets for her customers. She believed in the power of flowers to spread happiness and in the BJ’s Flower Shop motto “we deliver smiles.”
In addition to floristry, Bobbye enjoyed gardening and crafting. She was proud of her garden and was known to have a “green thumb,” successfully growing and propagating any plant. Outside of the garden, Bobbye enjoyed creating mosaics, stained glass art, sewing, and exploring new craft mediums.
Bobbye also enjoyed traveling and learning about history and the mysteries of the world. She traveled extensively across the country and loved the arid deserts and mountains of the southwest. The hoodoo rock formations of Bryce Canyon in Utah served as a particular spark for her imagination and creativity.
Bobbye was proceeded in death by her spouse, Colonel Jr. “Jake” Jacobs.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Jacobs and his spouse Mary of Hutto, TX and her daughter Angi Bridges of Belton, TX; grandsons, Joshua Jacobs and spouse Matt Marble of Seattle WA; Master Sargent Andrew Jacobs (USMC) of Oceanside, CA; Matthew Jacobs and spouse Logan James of Chattanooga, TN; Jacob Bridges of Belton, TX; and granddaughter Dusti Bridges and spouse John Campbell of Ogden, UT.
Rather than having a formal funeral service, Bobbye requested that friends and families honor her by treating themselves to a bouquet of flowers from their local florist. Her last wish was to be remembered as the one who “delivered smiles.”
