

Funeral services for Carl Guthrie, 85, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Baxley officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park. Mr. Guthrie died Tuesday at a Temple hospital. Mr. Guthrie was born in Moody to M.M. Guthrie and Nellie Bailey Guthrie. He attended Moody Schools. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He married Laney Benson March 6, 1946 in Waco. She preceded him in death December 10, 1987. He married Juanita Broussard September 12, 1988 in Temple. He owned and operated Carl Guthrie Garage for 42 years having retired in 1987. He was a member of Heights Baptist Church where he was a deacon and sang with the Golden Heights Choir. He was a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by one step grandchild. Survivors include his wife Juanita Guthrie of Temple; two daughters Janie Franz and her husband Ed of San Antonio and Debbie Straka and her husband Gene of Katy; one step daughter Judy Benson of Temple; one stepson David Broussard and his wife Linda of Salado; one brother O.C. Guthrie of Lubbock; three grandchildren Eric Holt of Waco, Jake Straka of Denton and Zach Straka of Katy and four step grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sammons Community Senior Center (254 298-5403) or to Golden Heights Choir at Heights Baptist Church (254 773-6615). Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
